Rachel has been an Animal Control Officer for over 26 years. She holds her National Certification with the National Animal Care and Control Association. She also holds certificates from the following organizations and more: Connecticut Humane Society University, Animal Welfare University, Humane Society of the US, New England Federation of Humane Societies, Rainforest Reptiles, ASPCA, etc.
Rachel was awarded the 2012 Connecticut Animal Law Enforcement Officer of the Year from the Connecticut Municipal Animal Control Officers Association, the 2018 National Animal Care & Control Employee of the Year from the National Animal Care & Control Association and was part of the team that were awarded the 2015 & 2022 Outstanding Animal Care & Control Agency award from the National Animal Care & Control Association.
Rachel has a great love of animals and always wanted to help them in some way. Her first inspiration, as a young child, comes from watching the “Price is Right” and hearing Bob Barker say “Please Spay & Neuter Your Pets” at the end of every show..
Rachel is passionate about all her pursuits and has always strives to elevate her profession by developing programs that better the outcome of animals and the community.
Rachel has been married for 29 years and lives with her husband Jorge and menagerie of four-legged family members. Her pets are her children.
Her hobbies include gardening, reading, traveling, binge watching tv and hiking. Nature feeds her soul and she has completed the 52 Hike Challenge and the CT Deep “Sky’s the Limit” Challenge.
Rachel volunteers in her free time and is a former board member of the Land Trust of West Haven and the West Haven Democratic Town committee. A great believer in sustainabilty, Rachel worked on the team that earned the City of West haven its certification with Sustainable CT.
Growing up Ray Zagurski was involved in 4-H, and has a small family farm. He attended Wamogo High School in Litchfield, CT where he took part in the Vocational Agricultural Program and FFA. After graduating Ray attended Northwest CT Community College where he received an associate’s degree in Park Management. Ray started his animal control career for The Town of Plymouth in October of 2006. Ray took a full time animal control position with The City of Bristol in June of 2007 where he has worked since. In addition to his job Ray is a member of the Terryville Fire Department and commander of the Region 5 Dive Team. Ray is an Eagle Scout, and stills enjoys the outdoors.
Angelique Fitzmorris has been an Animal Control Officer since 2009. She attended UConn and has a BS in Animal Science. She holds her National Certification with the National Animal Care and Control Association. She also holds certificates from the following organizations: Connecticut Humane Society, Animal Welfare University, Humane Society of the US, New England Federation of Humane Societies, Rainforest Reptiles, ASPCA, etc.
Angelique was awarded the 2019 Connecticut Animal Law Enforcement Officer of the Year from the Connecticut Municipal Animal Control Officers Association and was part of the team that were awarded the 2015 & 2022 Outstanding Animal Care & Control Agency award from the National Animal Care & Control Association.
She is in this profession because she has always loved animals and is passionate about helping them. She loves that this career allows her to help animals and the people that care about them.
Angelique is the proud Mom to her adventurous and naughty bulldog mix, Nyxie Leera, who gives her much joy and allows her to enjoy the outdoors. Her favorite quote is “Into the woods I go to lose my mind and find my soul- John Muir”
Her hobbies include hiking w/ her dog, photography, reading & watching scary movies. Angelique has completed the 52 Hike Challenge and the CT Deep “Sky’s the Limit” Challenge.
